Hardwood Floors Buffers

Hardwood floors buffers are sanders that you can rent when you need to refinish or rejuvenate the hardwood floors in your home. There are several different types of these buffers and the one you need will depend on the extent of work you want to do on your floors. If you only have a few scratches, then you can lightly sand it and then use resealing products without having to completely sand the entire floor. There are several different shapes of hardwood floor buffers, such as a buffer with a mesh screen, a random orbit sander or a square sander with a screen.

Correctly putting the sandpaper on the hardwood floors buffers is an important part of doing the job well. The professional at the rental location will help you do this and may even put on the first sheet for you as he/she walks you through the process. Before you start to use the buffer, you must remove all the furniture from the room. You also need to inspect the hardwood floors for any nails that may be coming through so that you won’t damage the screen on the buffer and in so doing damage your floor. You should wear a dust mask over your mouth when sanding, but you don’t need to move out of the house. With the new developments in the products for resealing hardwood floors, there is no danger of breathing in fumes.

Once you have finished sanding your hardwood floors with the hardwood floors buffers, you need to remove all the dust from the flooring. You can do this by sweeping or vacuuming, but you also need to lightly wash the floor with a damp mop. Now you are ready for resealing hardwood floors, but first you have to decide whether you want to stain them a different color or leave them natural. You will need to apply several coats of polyurethane sealant and the more coats you put on the shinier your floors will be. You do have to make sure that each coat is completely dry before you start applying the next resealing coat.

You should not use mineral oil on hardwood floors. Any oil based product will damage your hardwood floor, but if you are refinishing the floors, then you can use mineral oil. Hardwood floors do not respond well to this oil, but it is very useful in helping you strip off the wax and polish on the floor. When you use mineral oil first and then dry it, you will find that it is easier to use hardwood floors buffers.

When you use hardwood floors buffers, start off with the coarsest sandpaper. Change the sandpaper in the buffers every 15 or 20 minutes, but this depends on the extent of the finish you are trying to remove. It will take longer to remove the finish if you have prefinished hardwood floors because up to seven coats of finish are applied in a factory setting to achieve the shine you find on this flooring. Renting hardwood floors buffers is not an expensive proposition and neither are the resealing products. The main thing to remember is that this process takes time and you can’t rush it if you want to have elegant hardwood floors.
